Our identity. Our shared purpose.

Our emblem.
Our commitment.

Faith in God. A commitment to Arkansas Baptist College. Alumni united in service. Opportunity for the next generation. Our emblem brings these four commitments together in one shared identity.

Four commitments. One shared purpose.
What inspired the design

A legacy carried forward together.

The emblem draws on the familiar language of academic crests: a shield, a surrounding name band, and a ribbon identifying the Association. These elements give the design a clear structure. Its meaning comes from the people, beliefs, and responsibilities represented within it.

The Christian ministry and educational heritage of Arkansas Baptist College helped shape this direction. So did a practical question: how can one symbol express the relationship among faith, the College, its alumni, and the students whose futures we work to support?

The answer is a shield with four distinct sections, held together within a circle. Each section has its own place. Together, they communicate a commitment that extends across classes, communities, and generations.

The four commitments

Every section has a purpose.

The following verses support the commitments represented by each section. The colors express our design interpretation; Scripture does not prescribe this palette. Each connection leads back to service, education, and support for Arkansas Baptist College and its students.

01 · FAITH

God at the foundation of our service.

The cross and open Bible represent Jesus Christ, Christian ministry, and the principles that guide our service. They express the place of faith in this identity and the responsibility to put belief into action through care, integrity, and service to others.

The burgundy field gives this section a distinct place within the shield. Its cross and Bible remind us that strengthening a community involves both conviction and action.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8 (KJV)

In this design, burgundy recalls Christ’s sacrificial love. That is the inspiration for the color here, rather than a color meaning assigned by this verse. We connect that love to service: giving our time, care, and resources to strengthen support for Arkansas Baptist College and its students.

02 · THE COLLEGE

An institution worth strengthening.

Arkansas Baptist College institutional seal, Little Rock, Arkansas, founded 1884

The Arkansas Baptist College seal identifies the institution we support. Its presence brings the design directly back to the College, its educational mission, and the students it serves. The College’s seal remains distinct within the Association’s emblem.

Set against blue, it expresses our commitment to support the College’s educational mission and help preserve its legacy. The Association supports the College as a separate alumni organization with its own leadership and responsibilities.

“The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.”

Proverbs 18:15 (KJV)

Blue gives the College’s seal a clear, distinct setting. The verse supports this section’s educational purpose: seeking knowledge and wisdom. For alumni, that means helping sustain the College’s mission and supporting opportunities for students to learn and grow.

03 · ALUMNI

Our people, connected in purpose.

The group of graduates and graduation cap represent alumni coming together across generations. The group matters: the strength of the Association grows when people reconnect and contribute what they can.

Against green, this section brings together the knowledge, relationships, resources, time, and experience alumni offer. It speaks to mentorship, volunteer service, giving, and the work of building an active alumni network.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

Psalm 133:1 (KJV)

Green expresses growth and renewal in this design. The verse speaks to the unity that makes that growth possible. By reconnecting alumni, sharing experience, mentoring, volunteering, and giving together, we can strengthen the Association’s ability to support Arkansas Baptist College.

04 · STUDENTS

The next generation is the reason.

The young people and open book represent students and the generations who will follow them. They keep educational opportunity at the center of our purpose.

The gold field makes this section visible and distinct. It reminds us to connect our efforts to meaningful support for learning, growth, and the futures students are working to build.

“Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.”

Proverbs 8:10 (KJV)

Gold draws attention to the value of the next generation. This verse places instruction and knowledge above material wealth. It connects our support for Arkansas Baptist College to a lasting purpose: helping students gain knowledge, develop their abilities, and build meaningful futures.

One connected identity

Why the circle, shield, and ribbon matter.

The circle represents unity, continuity, and an enduring connection. It surrounds all four commitments, expressing a shared responsibility that reaches beyond any one graduating class or individual.

The shield brings those commitments into one structure. Its four sections remain distinct, while their shared border expresses the strength of working together.

The name band and ribbon make clear who this emblem represents: the National Alumni Association of Arkansas Baptist College, identified here as NAA / ABC. It is the Association’s identity, distinct from the College’s institutional seal.

Color with a purpose

Distinct parts. A unified whole.

The navy band provides a strong, readable frame. The slim gold trim adds warmth and dignity. White space keeps the central symbols clear.

Burgundy, blue, green, and gold distinguish the four sections so each commitment can be recognized. These colors were selected for this design to create a rich, clear identity; they are not presented as a historical color code inherited from the College.

The meaning rests in the complete design: faith, the College, alumni, and students brought together in service.

The spirit of the work

“Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.”

Nehemiah 2:18 (KJV excerpt)

This call to shared action reflects the spirit we want to carry forward: people coming together, committing their abilities, and working toward a common purpose. For the Association, that means mobilizing alumni, strengthening our support for the College, and helping students move forward.

Carry the meaning into action.

An emblem becomes meaningful through the people who stand behind it. Reconnect with fellow alumni, share your talents, volunteer, mentor, or give in support of the Association’s work.
